ABOUT USCovering only the best in the latest news and reviews for all things Xbox related - Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Xbox Game Pass - we aim to be a one stop hub for all your Xbox needs, without all the useless guff that you really don’t want to know about. out of 10: "This could get fixed into a solid game, but players should be cautious until an overhaul occurs".

In older versions of Micro Machines, I remember one or two of the tracks being slightly confusing at times but not every one of them. On Xbox though, there is still a buggy achievement that has never been fixed, the online portion died off pretty quickly rendering most of the main game unplayable and somehow it lost all identity.Micro Machines World Series is combines the thrilling madness of racing micro vehicles with epic team battle strategies, set against the extraordinary interactive backdrops of the everyday home! Maybe its an age thing, but the game seems to focus so heavily on the product placement (Nerf especially) that it loses gameplay elements, split screen is still good fun, especially with my brother, who can now beat me after 10 years of being player 2. Being based on the children’s line of miniature vehicles, Micro Machines didn’t need to rely on traditional racing courses. Codemasters could have built on what it achieved with Toybox, but instead it's scaled that back and risked it all on a brand new concept. There were no microtransactions, these loot boxes were awarded after online races and from levelling up.

In its place is a more concentrated effort on online multiplayer with classic races and the new Battle mode supporting up to 12 players online at once. For a franchise that so obviously trades on nostalgia to not make the most of these classic modes feels like a misstep. Fast forward to 2017 and I now have two teenagers in the house, who weren't even born when I was playing this back in the 90's!Each of the 12 vehicles has its own unique loadout of weapons and abilities and the game will launch with a massive range of customisation options. The online portion works well enough - quickmatch will attempt to put you in lobby with as many human players as possible, but will plug the gaps with AI characters if necessary so there's always a full match and you're never left waiting too long for a game. With the emphasis here firmly fixed on Battle Mode, fan favourites like Elimination mode and the standard races play second fiddle and feel like afterthoughts. Instead, the Codemasters developers could conjure up tracks on snooker tables, breakfast tables, garden shrubbery, toilet seats and many other locations.
