On its own terms, it's an ideal book, but it's not a picture book for general reading - not that it aims to be. The love a parent has for a child is unconditional; Complete and absolute, and not dependent on any terms or conditions. It is really heartwarming at the end, to see him realise that he still means the world to his parents and that he will always be loved by them; despite them no longer being together. However by removing the crack later in the story but still having the same whole page illustrations provides a key visual message that in time the situation does heal. The heartwarming ending of the realisation that he will still be loved equally by both of his parents, even if they are separated.

Separation is incredibly common amongst parents so this book will be good to use in classrooms to explore it and develop an understanding of it. For children I could see this book working very well, whether the parents separation is going smoothly or not, this story promotes a key message that children need to understand if they are going through this. Kes was voted by the Independent as one of the TOP TEN children's authors and he is the author of the award-winning Eat Your Peas and winner of the Red House Children's Book Award. If you are concerned about the health and wellbeing of yourself or children in your care, you should always consult an appropriate healthcare professional. It's not really a book that young children who aren't going through divorcing parents would want to read - it'd ask more questions than it asks.

Summary: A sensitive and helpful message book about a young child trying to come to terms with his parents' divorce. As the book progresses we see the kid try to get his parents together again, to have them kiss, to have them love each other again. e. that you need ‘love’ and not ‘parent glue’ is so eloquently put across - Gray reminds us that love is a internalised feeling, that lives inside each and every one of us, and it is this image, this thought, and this emotion, that is able to override any sense of insecurity a child feels that is experiencing their parents going through a divorce. The illustrations represent how he feels as if his whole word is breaking apart until he finds comfort in the fact that his parents love for him will never break.

Mum and Dad Glue is very much a message book, and is aimed squarely at young children in the exact same situation as the unnamed hero. The boy in the story thinks that if only he could find some parent glue to stick his mum and dad back together, things might go back to how they were. Most of the time it is not the fault of the kid, most of the time parents just lose their love, or find a new love, or some other reason.

Essentially, the little boy, who is trying to use an inanimate tool, to fix a very real, tangible problem, comes to find that some things in life you cannot fix. The book follows the story in a sensitive and soft tone, and would be a perfect read with a child who is experiencing this in their life.

This book is written as a poem and tells the story of a little boy whos parents are getting divorced. It is important for him to look into the future and see that things will be okay and that they will always love him. Beautifully rhyming story that flows and in with really lovely language tackles the issue of parent separation. He explains to the reader that although his parents are apart they will always love him, and if they could have resolved their differences they would have done it by now.
