I asked John Martin why did he think that particular book was the bestselling one as far as poetry was concerned. The mid to late 2000s was full of this sort of behavior, look at the emo culture, where people wanted to express their disdain for the world around them (the emo culture did it with more self loathing and tears, whereas something like Bukowski is more about pushing someone away through acting depraved and hard when you actually truly want them to get close to you). I think the initial printings of the later books was 5000 (can be verified through Krumhansl), and I would expect a reprint to be less than that - 1000? Life as we live it - is depicted in his verses like a nude woman, stripped off all covers and ornaments, bared, with all the beauty and ugliness.

His poetry is rather simple, nothing complex to pick apart, and very rarely uses many poetic devices, but that is what makes it so powerful. Village Voice critic Robert Christgau named "Emotional Idiot", "Jenny's Shirt", and "Scab Maids on Speed" as highlights while giving the album an honorable mention in his May 1997 "Consumer Guide" column. It was like having a conversation across 3 years time with an old friend, the type of friend that is more like a brother. First published in 1977, Love Is a Dog from Hell is a collection of Bukowski's poetry from the mid-seventies. A stunning release - and I would dearly love to hear an album of all the extraordinary GODFLESH dub mixes in one place (is there one?I lost interest in Palahniuk once I realized that he would never offer a true solution to the problems he imposes on his characters (as well as simply recycling characters and techniques, but that is a different discussion). Abel Debritto , a former Fulbright scholar and current Marie Curie fellow, works in the digital humanities. Bitter Crank Bukowski had many flings with prostitutes in his day, and wrote about all the sublime experiences in ''Women''. Without the proper intelligence, love doesn't exist and I'm not talking about IQ or intelligence for getting good grades in school, but the intelligence related to experiencing emotions and love. Most people, especially teenagers, chase after love like its something they need but instead it's ego-centric desire and lust.

He then stated, "No book defines love (implying by holding the bible with his hand that even the holy bible fails in defining love as well)" The man was old and did seem emotionally connected to what he was trying to teach us.Alternating between tough and gentle, sensitive and gritty, Bukowski lays bare the myriad facets of love-its selfishness and its narcissism, its randomness, its mystery and its misery, and, ultimately, its true joyfulness, endurance, and redemptive power. It's like this embarrassing Pavlovian reaction, inciting a domino of emotions - first my self esteem dips, then I get depressed, then I get irritated for getting depressed, and then I just get shifty-eyed and distrusting of my own feelings and wonder if I need a therapist. He’s often boorish in a creepy, voyeuristic way; the commodification of women and young girls--yup, we get pedophilia here too--is unappealing, to say the least. His first book of poetry was published in 1959; he went on to publish more than forty-five books of poetry and prose, including Pulp (1994), Screams from the Balcony (1993), and The Last Night of the Earth Poems (1992).
