A beautiful ruthless woman accepted and respected in our criminal world and a dear long-time friend. Lots of twists, cleverly dropped at the end of each chapter to keep the reader engaged, and lots of grim secrets to discover. Blake Nelson has married to three women, Rachel the first wife, Emily the second wife and Tina the third wife. Still on the mend from his own relationship wounds after a turbulent divorce, Parlabane’s investigation into matters of the heart takes him to hidden places, online and off, no one should ever have to go. He has won many wards for his work, including the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award, the McIlvanney Prize for Best Scottish Crime Novel of the Year, the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize, and the Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Award.

Emily, Blake's second wife, is young and naïve, but truly is questionable in every sense of the word. As the trial proceeds, the court will hear how a driven woman acted out of the oldest and sincerest of motives: to be with the man she was destined for.

E Tina - la terza sorella-moglie è un'ex tossicodipendente e prostituta di Las Vegas che ha incontrato Blake in riabilitazione dove si è offerto volontario.

What we really want to know is how these three women ended up in this shitty situation in the first place? This book has so much Mormon influence, the entire book is based on the societal norms and standards prevailing in that paticular region. When Stacey meets Alistair Stuard, everything changes, propelling her towards a brand new future that even she did not see coming.Full of engaging twists, Brookmyre’s latest thriller featuring unconventional journalist Jack Parlabane is as compelling as it is clever. It’s equally fascinating observing how the dynamics between the wives changes both in their attitudes to each other but also Blake. Well done Cate Quinn you made my life more difficult having to keep an eye on books by Cate with a C and Kate with a K Quinn. On the surface, BLACK WIDOW is a standard domestic thriller: a story about a marriage gone horribly, horribly wrong, and an unveiling of the deadly secrets that existed between husband and wife. One final note: BLACK WIDOW is part of Brookmyre’s Jack Parlabane series, but it can absolutely be read as a standalone—that’s how I read it, and I had no problem with it whatsoever.

The novel follows surgeon Diana Jager, who is exposed as the author of an anonymous blog about sexism in her profession. Highly recommended for fans of Lisa Jewell’s THEN SHE WAS GONE and Jennifer Hillier’s LITTLE SECRETS, this is a 2023 mystery not to be missed. He is kind and generous, and he knows nothing about her past–the second chance she’s been waiting for. Somehow the ending didn't work for me, it was good going until the ending came and it ruined everything. If she had her way she'd wear her favorite curve-hugging leopard print dress to Scott's funeral; he loved her in that dress! Turns out, my reading list just needed a dose of Brookmyre's gritty, gripping writing to ease this fatigue. Jason had scorned her, lied to her, behaved too badly for him to be left alive, forcing her to kill… again.
