The first in a spicy, hilarious HGTV-inspired romantic comedy trilogy from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Happened One Summer and Hook, Line, and Sinker! This is something I completely relate to with Georgie in how she was the youngest in her family and never seen as the adult. She was never taken seriously by others. And in part, her being a clown symbolized how people thought of her as a joke and they looked down at her for it. They thought her of a kid, not worthy to sit at the big boy table, when really being a clown—-entertaining people—–was what she liked to do and it broke my heart how EVERYONE would talk down to her, especially her family. I wanted to slap her brother, Stephan, each time he pushed aside her comments or advice because he was like “the big kids are talking.” Stephan, adults are just bigger kids and act dumb, so don’t go putting yourself on a pedestal!!! And the fact that all her family members missed out on her brunch was HEARTBREAKING!!! If I was there, I would have gone to her brunch in a heartbeat. But the fact that her brother blatantly forgot about the brunch highlighted how he truly did not care for Georgie and her “silly” family brunch idea and it was disrespectful to what she was trying to do. I mean, she was a gosh darn home owner now and was cooking breakfast for you all and you couldn’t even bother to show up!!! I would have thrown eggs and bacon at their faces!! 😠 It was even sadder than her mom and dad were coming and then Geogie canceled the whole thing because she knew no one else was coming. What was sadder was how upbeat the mom sounded and Georgie felt like they wanted an out to not come anyway. Her family really needed to get some grade A respect slapped into their heads. I loved the whole declaration on TV and how Georgie wanted to go see him to accept the proposal and Stephan drove her. Can we talk about how Stephan was pretty cool as an older brother for being slightly okay with Travis and Georgie dating. Stephan and Travis were childhood best friends and Travis had a reputation. It was funny whenever Stephan and Travis were around each other and Georgie was there because Travis wasn’t in the cleanest headspace. I also liked the fact that Travis told Stephan that he was dating Georgie before they officially came out because it meant that Travis had respect for their friendship and wanted to get that awkwardness out the way. If I were Stephan, I would have been like no way José are you getting anywhere near my sister. I really expected him to punch Travis out of anger, but he was good about not doing so. Stephan was a bit protective, but what bother isn’t towards their little sister. But I liked how he was the one to help Georgie meet Travis half-way in knowing that his best friend truly did love her and that his sister loved him—–he put his own differences aside for the happiness of the people he loved. I loved that.

She's a virgin and he's a player (because of course they both are, Wattpad remember?) And that's something I could get on board with because I've read that trope a million times before, BUT the fact that he constantly seeing her as a little sister while sexualizing her... just yikes. The main female character is Georgie, a woman defined by her virginity, her clown career, and her unexplained crush on her brother's bestie Travis. contentment spread like JAM ON BREAD in her belly” (why do use these words for this comparison, I have so many questions) I’ve heard a lot of complaints about Travis being a bit alpha and possessive which is definitely true. Something I noticed while reading is that the book almost reads as a dom/sub relationship without fully taking it there. There’s a fair number of sex scenes (so be warned), and the language used by both parties reads more kinky than I would have expected from a mainstream romance. There are moments where the language veers into some virgin or even little kink (as Georgie is a virgin and it’s made a big deal of and she also comes off as very innocent). I honestly think if the author embraced that a bit more and made it more explicitly kinky, people might have had less issues. But since it’s not discussed by the characters, it comes off a bit weird. Her bother is dismissive then protective? Make sense of that. I'm not even sure what his personality is, it jumped around so much. He was just a very poorly thought out character. I literally can't even remember his name.

This is a fake dating romance between a “good girl” who is the baby of the family and not taken seriously (not helped by the fact that she’s an actual professional clown) and a “bad boy” former baseball player who has a history of hookups. They have known each other since childhood and she has always harbored a crush on him. No one takes Georgie seriously until Travis, an *older man* comes in and "saves the day" by pointing out that maybe, just maybe, a 23 year old should be treated like an adult. He's practically a God in Georgie's eyes after that. I'm not exaggerating. It had the perfect amount of quirky humor with steamy romance. Bailey hits so many of my favorite romance tropes with the book and she executes them all so well... If you need a fun rom-com to take the beach this summer, then Fix Her Up is a great choice. -- Bookish There is more coming and I have questions. There is a flip I want details about. There is a relationship that I need to know what happens next with. There is a sister that I need to know about. And more. I'll be waiting for more. I loved the relationship development between Georgie and Travis. They start as unlikely friends and confidants that soon leads to something more when Travis finally sees the woman Georgie always was. I loved that it wasn't about Georgie changing herself to be seen in a different light by him but rather just coming into her own and comfortable with it. I loved the way that Travis brought her strength and helped her bring out the best version of herself and have her family finally see her. I loved that Georgie was a strong heroine outside of everything too. She didn't need Travis to help her, but she also brought out the best version of him.So what is it, Tessa Bailey? Is this book unrealistic or are all the characters terrible, terrible people? Tessa Bailey is one of the most prolific American female authors who has done excellent work in her career as a writer. She has written a myriad number of books that are available both online and locally. She is married and a mother of one. Tessa Bailey currently lives in New York City with her family. Her main passion is writing and reading romance, but whenever she isn’t either of these, you will find her enjoying a good argument and a recipe of about thirty minutes. Throughout the entire book, the constant narrative of "I'm unhappy with my ball and chain of a wife" is pushed from EVERYWHERE. Along the way I feel like the story started to fall into the “one sex scene after another” and the plot doesn’t go anywhere trope I can accept the part where he thinks of Georgie as the girl who actually saved him from being a complete mess all the time. Because that's true. Because she did/say some things that helped him.
